Rich answers appearing in search results has nearly doubled in the last two years, showing that Google knows it’s users are wanting to gain access to information quicker than ever before, and this is almost certainly going to increase even more in coming years.
Including structured data markup (or ’Schema Markup’ as it is also known) in your website’s HTML code with microdata marked up, enables search engines to better understand the information that your website is providing. As you may have already read in our blog ‘Optimise Your Site for Google’s Mobile First Indexing’, mobile optimisation is no longer something that you can skip over, making this a key SEO trend for 2017.
From now on, you must prioritise the mobile user to be considered a reliable source. The best way to go about doing this is to make sure that your website is responsive, rather than just desktop or mobile friendly, as this will give your website visitors the best experience, whatever device they’re using to view your page. Going for a website that is responsive, rather than having both a desktop and a mobile site, is a much better choice as this way you won’t lose any of your SEO content.
We all know that ‘content is king’ and it’s certainly true that creating quality and genuinely useful and relevant content for your audience is one SEO trend that is here to stay. However, over the years we have seen a rise in websites offering very long-winded and lower quality content that is often not all that original, in the hope that this will be boosting their SEO, but in actual fact this is likely to have the opposite effect.
2017 is the year of valuable content – content that is informative, interesting to read, focusing on function and backed up with facts. Making your words count is essential to your audience and Google alike.
The predominant aim of your content should be to give as much value as possible to your customer. Giving away, for free, excellent advice written in a clear and understandable manner that genuinely provides value will have customers falling in love with you and your business and coming back for more whilst also having a big impact on your brand’s visibility and your SEO.
Utilising keywords is great, but 2017 is going to see a huge rise in the requirement for more semantic searches, rather than stripping it down and keeping it simple. Google technology is getting more and more impressive all the time and now, rather than focusing on pulling up searches related to individual words, it is actually finding results that relate to the meaning of a user’s search. This means that broadening the keywords into a phrase or a more focused topic now provides better SERPs.
And it doesn’t stop there! Semantic searching is also a great way to stay ahead of the need for adapting to voice searches, that are now becoming increasingly popular with apps such as Siri being so widely used and available. To adapt websites to these voice searches, that are being used more all the time, content and keywords now need to fully respond to the way that a user might ask a question, vocally.
