Is Your Brand Trusted? Credibility Matters More Than Ever

You’ve invested time, money, and energy into your website but if it’s not attracting enquiries or showing up in the right Google searches, it can feel like something’s fundamentally off.

Often, that missing piece isn’t your design or your content.
It’s trust.

Brand trust matters more than ever – not just to your visitors, but to Google and AI search. If your website doesn’t clearly show you’re a real, credible business, search engines won’t recommend you.

When I audit websites, I’m often surprised by how many are missing the basics. Even well-established businesses overlook simple signals that would instantly make them appear more trustworthy to search engines and potential clients.

Let’s fix that.

1. Make sure your NAP data is present and consistent

Your Name, Address, and Phone number (NAP) should be clearly visible in at least three places:

  • Your website footer
  • Your Contact page
  • Your About page

Sounds simple, right? But you’d be surprised how often a business name is written differently in different places, or the phone number doesn’t match what’s listed on Google.

Consistent NAP data - Name, Address, and Phone number helps to build trust

Consistency is key. Google uses NAP data to confirm your business is genuine. It’s a small detail that builds a huge amount of brand trust.

Quick check:
Search your business name in Google.
Do all your listings (website, Google Business Profile, social media, directories) display the same NAP details?
If not, tidy them up – it’s an easy SEO win.

2. Build a strong, human About page

Your About page isn’t just a formality, it’s one of the most powerful trust signals you have.

It’s where both people and Google look for signs of E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trust) and decide whether to believe in you.

A strong About page should:

  • Show real photos of you and your team (not stock images).
  • Include clear bios that highlight experience and expertise.
  • Feature client testimonials or review snippets.
  • Include awards, partnerships, or media mentions if you have them.
  • Link to your Google reviews, social channels, or press mentions.
  • Provide an easy, visible way to get in touch

When I create or audit About pages, I think of them as your digital handshake. It’s the page that says, “Yes, this is a real person or business you can trust.”

Client example:
I recently worked with a physiotherapy clinic whose About page was just a couple of sentences. Once we added team bios, clinic photos, and testimonials, their local rankings jumped within weeks, and clients mentioned that the team “looked friendly and professional” before even booking.

That’s the power of a well-optimised About page.

How to fix it:
Think of your About page as your credibility hub. Make it personal, visual, and confidence-inspiring.

3. Don’t skip your Schema

Schema markup might sound technical, but it’s simply structured data that helps Google understand what your website is — not just what it says.

Without it, your website is like a book with no table of contents.

Make sure you’re using:

  • Organization schema (with your NAP data)
  • AboutPage schema
  • ContactPage schema

You can check your schema using Google’s Rich Results Test or the Schema Validator.

This small step gives search engines clear, structured proof that your business is legitimate – reinforcing your brand trust and credibility.

How to fix it:
Ask your web developer or SEO provider to add schema markup to your key pages. It’s quick to do and helps Google display your business more confidently.

4. Gather and showcase reviews

Search engines and people both look for the same thing: proof that others trust you.

Having reviews, testimonials, and case studies visible across your site is essential.

The key is authenticity – Google is very good at spotting fake or recycled reviews.

How to fix it:

  • Display a few genuine client reviews on your homepage, About page and Services pages.
  • Link to your Google Business Profile or TrustPilot for transparency.
  • Keep your tone natural and your claims real.

Even a handful of specific, heartfelt reviews do more than a dozen generic ones.

Check your review presence by searching:

“YourSite.com reviews”
…replacing “YourSite.com” with your domain.

5. The 30-second brand trust test

Here’s my favorite E-E-A-T check

Ask ChatGPT,

“Is [Your Brand Name] a trusted brand?”

You’ll quickly see how the internet (and AI) currently perceives your business. If the answer’s vague or negative, that’s your cue to improve your online trust signals.

“Is [Your Brand Name] a trusted brand?” via ChatGPT

Why brand trust matters

Anonymous websites don’t perform well anymore.

Google’s systems and AI search are constantly looking for proof of legitimacy. If your brand doesn’t look real, or you’re hiding behind a generic site with no human face, you’ll struggle to rank and convert.

Even affiliate sites now need someone credible attached to them.
Show your face, tell your story, and demonstrate your expertise – that’s how you build brand trust that lasts.
